At right, an initial .016 Supercable is reinforced by .030 tubes at the extraction sites. Note that the tubes do not span the entire distance between the attachments. This allows the bicuspids to be swung distally by the unique interaction of both elastic elements in the system.

Controlled closure of 75% of the extraction space without any traction force to the molars and bicuspids. 1/4"-2 oz. Class II elastics from the lower first molars were started on November 30, 1994.

This treatment was carried out in 14 months by employing only three lower archwires: .016 Supercable, .020 Round Nickel Titanium and a .020 high-modulus stainless steel archwire. Note the marginal ridge alignment at the extraction sites. Intermaxillary traction force never exceeded 57 grams per side.
