These .015 coaxial archwires end at the first bicuspid so that they will not interfere with the second bicuspid extractions.

The
.0195 coaxial archwires extend distally to engage the molar attachments and are reinforced at the extraction sites. Note the amount of tooth movement in 3 months. The .030 reinforcing tubes should be used when flexible archwires span the extraction spaces.
Closure of residual space will not be started until a rigid .020 stainless steel archwire lies passively in each slot. Then the following traction force can be considered:

• second molar to first bicuspid
           • first molar to first bicuspid
           • first molar to canine
           • second molars to all eight teeth in the "anterior" segment
           • various combinations of intermaxillary traction

Compression springs can also be used to assist:

           •
midline corrections
           •
differential tooth movement
           • anchorage loss
